Nanbei Lake, located in Haiyan County, Jiaxing, is a picturesque destination embraced by mountains on three sides and a river on the fourth. The lake is uniquely divided into two parts, North Lake and South Lake, by the Bao Gong Causeway. Being conveniently close to both Shanghai and Hangzhou, Nanbei Lake is an ideal spot for weekend leisurely drives.
Scattered throughout the scenic area are various attractions that can be explored on foot, or by shuttle bus and electric cart within the park. For a casual stroll, visitors often head to the Egret Isle and Butterfly Island in the lake, or follow the ancient mountain paths to Yingke Peak and Baiyun Pavilion for a panoramic view of the lake. With two days at your disposal, you can not only visit these attractions but also enjoy boating on the lake and driving around to appreciate the scenery, making for a more relaxing experience. The scenic area boasts resort hotels as well as farmhouses with meals and lodging at reasonable prices, typically around 100 yuan. Almost all visitors to Nanbei Lake take a walk on the Bao Gong Causeway, which divides the lake into two parts, with bridges on either side leading to Egret Isle and Butterfly Island. The wooden bridges to the islands are charmingly winding, and there are tea houses on the islands where one can enjoy tea and take in the views. If time allows, boating from the dock to the east of the causeway is a delightful experience, costing 30-40 yuan per person for half an hour. The Jiuqu Path starts at the southern end of the scenic area, featuring stone steps that are not too difficult to climb, though the entire hike will leave you sweating. Halfway up the mountain, you’ll pass by Yunxi Temple, which is divided into a tour area in the east and a living area in the west, with an ancient-style stage in the east. Entry to Yunxi Temple requires an additional ticket of 10 yuan, which you may consider purchasing if interested. Continuing along the ancient path to Yingke Peak, on a clear day, the view is expansive, allowing you to overlook the entire Nanbei Lake’s mountains and waters, with the distant sea visible but not distinct. After leaving Yingke Peak, the way to Baiyun Pavilion is a flat concrete road. Baiyun Pavilion is a newly built pavilion with a tea house on the first floor, which requires consumption for seating, so many people only go up to the second floor to get another view of the panoramic Nanbei Lake before heading west to Tanxian Rock City, which was once a fortress against Japanese pirates. The buildings seen today are recent reconstructions and are quite imposing. There is also a Taoist temple here that can be visited. The scenic area is open year-round from 08:00 to 16:30. Parking facilities are available at the Jiaxing Nanbei Lake Parking with a reference price of ¥10 per entry, located in Haiyan County, Hangzhou Bay North Bank, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, with a capacity of 800 spaces, ¥10 per day. The east and north gates each have 400 spaces. The internal transportation within the park has varying private prices.Nanbei Lake – A Scenic Gem Surrounded by Nature
