The Wen Yuan in Nanshan is located at the eastern foot of Zhulin Temple. It is a themed park built in the late 1990s to commemorate Liu Xie, China’s great literary theorist, and his literary theory masterpiece ‘Wen Xin Diao Long’. The entire Wen Yuan covers an area of 4 hectares. There are成片的 camphor forests, bamboo forests and flowers and plants. It has Wenxin Pavilion and Xuelin Pavilion. There are children’s corners, student squares, waterside pavilions and stage, and national fitness facilities.
Wenxin Pavilion is a two-story Xieshan-style Qing dynasty building. It is elegant and simple and leads the whole park. It complements Diaolong Pond and Zhiyin Pavilion. It is a good place for literati to gather. There is a bronze statue of Liu Xie at the door of Xuelin Pavilion. Inside the pavilion, there are five halls: literature, art, science and technology, culture, and foreign exchanges. The deeds of Zhenjiang’s historical and cultural celebrities are displayed in different categories. Among these celebrities, some are native Zhenjiang people; some are guest residents who have lived in Zhenjiang for a long time and regard Zhenjiang as their second hometown; there are also several foreign celebrities who have an indissoluble bond with Zhenjiang in history and have made outstanding contributions to Zhenjiang’s historical and cultural development.
