Also known as Tianning Chan Temple, it was originally built during the Tang Dynasty (the exact year is unknown), making it one of the oldest, largest, and well-preserved Buddhist temples in the urban area of Nantong. It is one of the three existing Tang temples in the Nantong Jianghai region (Langshan Guangjiao Temple, Rugao Dinghui Temple, and Nantong Tianning Temple). Guangxiao Tower is located within Tianning Temple, with a long history, as the saying goes, ‘Before the city, there was the tower; the predecessors built the city around the tower.’ The tower was built in 864 AD and is a scenic spot in the northwest of the Haohe River. It is open all year round from 09:00 to 17:00.
