Nantong University, colloquially known as ‘Tongda’, is situated in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is a comprehensive university that is jointly constructed by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Transport. The university holds several prestigious positions:
– It is one of the fifteen key universities in Jiangsu Province.
– It is a pilot university for the national ‘Outstanding Doctor Education and Training Plan’ and ‘Outstanding Teacher Training Plan’.
– It is among the first batch of Jiangsu high-level university construction and cultivation support universities.
– It is one of the first batch of national units authorized to grant bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
– It is also a doctoral degree-granting unit.

In May 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology, and Nantong Normal College merged to form the new Nantong University. These three provincial public undergraduate colleges came together to create a stronger, more comprehensive institution.
