Nanyang Ancient Town, one of the four famous towns along the Grand Canal, is located in the vast Weishan Lake, where the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal merges with the lake. The ancient canal runs through it, boasting more than 150,000 acres of lake surface and over 50 varieties of aquatic economic plants, as well as nearly a hundred species of fish, shrimp, shellfish, and wild ducks. The town spans thousands of acres of lotus flowers and tens of thousands of acres of reeds. The newly widened Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal crosses the ancient town of Nanyang. With a population of over 15,000 residents and an area of 4.5 square kilometers, Nanyang Ancient Town is backed by the important town of Jining in the southwest of Shandong to the north, bordered by the ancient Pengcheng Xuzhou to the south, adjacent to the sacred land of Confucius and Mencius in Qufu and Zoucheng to the east, and connected to the hometown of peonies, Heze, to the west. It is close to the hometown of Liang Zhu, the birthplace of Zhongzi, and the Red Lotus Wetland of Weishan Lake in Tengzhou. It is 30 kilometers away from the Beijing-Fuzhou Expressway and 60 kilometers from Jining Airport. Passenger ships (cruise ships) travel from Jining to Nanyang Island (Nanyang Ancient Town), and it takes only 30 minutes to reach the scenic area of Nanyang Island from the ferry terminal in Yutai County by boat. The transportation is convenient and fast. Nanyang Ancient Town is known as the ‘Little Suzhou of the North’ with a pleasant climate. When the breeze is refreshing and the bright moon is high, the golden lake surface, the anchored boats, the resting wild ducks, and the swaying reeds form a series of exquisite landscape paintings. In the paintings, a few friends gather, a pot of cloudy wine, and they are intoxicated in a fairyland. Nanyang Ancient Town is a pure land and a harbor that soothes the soul. When you arrive at Nanyang Ancient Town, breathing the unique fish village lake air, you can calm your heart and relax. Open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00.
