The Nine-Dragon Waterfall is located 3 kilometers east of the south gate of Huangshan Scenic Area. The names of scenic spots in the scenic area mostly contain the word ‘dragon’. There is always flowing water accompanying along the mountain road. The characteristic lies in a waterfall folded into nine sections. Under each section of the waterfall, there are beautiful pools. The water color is green, not inferior to the nearby Jade Valley. It is a good place for getting close to water. Although the Nine-Dragon Waterfall is at the foot of Huangshan Mountain, the ticket is not included in the Huangshan ticket and is sold separately from Huangshan. The good time to visit the Nine-Dragon Waterfall is after rain in spring and summer. The waterfall is magnificent. If it is in the dry season in winter, the waterfall is just a trickle, mainly for viewing mountain scenery. From the gate with the three characters ‘Nine-Dragon Waterfall’ to seeing the waterfall, there is a long way to go. Not far from the entrance, there are many fat red carp in the fish pond. Continuing to walk forward, a large bamboo forest comes into view. On the way, sedan chair carriers will ask if you want to take a palanquin. After seeing the waterfall, there is a relatively steep mountain road in the Nine-Dragon Waterfall. However, generally speaking, the mountain road is gentler than that on Huangshan Mountain. It is recommended to climb by yourself as a warm-up exercise at the foot of Huangshan Mountain. After passing several pools, you can see Longchan Temple. The temple is not large, and the branches on both sides are hung with red cloth strips. Further up is Meilin Study (Courtyard), rebuilt on the ruins. It is said to be the place where Cao Zhenyong and Cao Wenzhi, father and son prime ministers from Shexian County in the Qing Dynasty, studied. There are small stone fish living in the shoal in front of the study, and you can catch fish and play. Then, after passing Longmu Pool, Qinglong Gorge, and Jiuqu Gorge, you can see the nine waterfalls below. Then walk to Huilong Pavilion. Now the first and second waterfalls cannot be reached. Take the direction of Longxin Pool to see the other waterfalls. When you reach Longxin Pool and encounter a fork in the road, one leads to the third, fourth, and fifth waterfalls, and the other leads to the seventh and eighth waterfalls. On the road between the seventh and eighth waterfalls, you can see the Double Dragon Pine. After seeing them all, return to Longxin Pool and take the direction of Guabupavilion. The viewing angle of the waterfall from Guabupavilion is very good. Walking 4 kilometers up from Guabupavilion is Yungu Temple. Yungu Temple is commonly known as the climbing place at the back mountain of Huangshan Mountain. To climb Huangshan Mountain, you need to buy a Huangshan ticket. Walking up Huangshan Mountain from Yungu Temple can reach Bai’e Ridge, where there is also Yungu Cableway. Walking 1 kilometer down from Guabupavilion can exit the scenic area from the east gate of Huangshan Mountain. You can also return the same way and exit the scenic area from the gate of Nine-Dragon Waterfall. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00.
