The Drum Tower, also known as Haishu Tower, is the only surviving ancient city gate tower in Ningbo. Its lower part follows the traditional Chinese city tower style, while the upper part features a Roman-style bell tower, creating a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles.
Surrounding the Drum Tower is an antique-style pedestrian shopping area where you can taste Ningbo’s special snacks such as Youzan. Nowadays, the Drum Tower and the nearby Park Road have become the hub for major cultural activities in Ningbo, where art, calligraphy, and photography exhibitions are frequently held.
On both sides of the road, shops in the style of traditional Ningbo architecture stand, with small green tile double-sloped roofs, windfire horsehead walls, and various exquisite exterior wood decorations, presenting both the traditional commercial street style of Ningbo and a strong sense of historical culture. At the eastern and western entrances, two ancient stone archways, as well as the city wall ruins, stone tablets depicting the historical changes of the sub-city, and the Yongfeng Warehouse Ruins Park near the Drum Tower, offer a chance to delve into Ningbo’s history.
At night, the area around the Drum Tower is bustling, and the night scenery is particularly suitable for photography when the landscape lights are on. The Drum Tower is open all year round from 9:00 to 17:00, and the specific business status is subject to the day’s opening conditions.
