The Ningbo Gang Museum is located in Zhenhai District, Ningbo City. It is at the southern end of the Hangzhou Bay Sea-Crossing Bridge and the end of the Zhoushan Linking Islands Bridge. Covering an area of 70 mu and with a construction area of 24,000 square meters, it is a key cultural construction project of Ningbo during the ’11th Five-Year Plan’. It was completed and opened on October 22, 2009. As an urban humanities museum, the Ningbo Gang Museum takes chronology as the context, historical facts as the clue, and figures as the highlights. It systematically displays the epic of the arduous struggle and success of the Ningbo Gang from the late Ming Dynasty to the present. This is to carry forward the financial wisdom culture and nostalgia of the Ningbo Gang. By creating an ’emotional landmark and spiritual home’, it advocates the humanistic theme of seeking roots and paying homage to ancestors and being cautious in the end and tracing back to the source. The architecture of the Ningbo Gang Museum fully highlights the cultural character of the Ningbo Gang adhering to tradition while being pioneering and innovative. The architectural design of the museum is presided over by He Jingtang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the designer of the China Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The exhibition inside the museum is rich in connotation, novel in means, and has a strong humanistic atmosphere. The museum’s exhibition design won the ‘Nomination for Best Exhibition Space Design Award’ in the 2010 Asia-Pacific Interior Design Biennial Grand Prix; and the ‘Best Content Design Award’ in the 2010 Zhejiang Province Exhibition Excellence Selection.
