The Wulongtan Scenic Area is located in the southwest of Ningbo urban area. Not far from the city, one can enjoy good mountain and wild scenery. As the name suggests, a major attraction in the scenic area is the five pools of water. Accompanied by the verdant mountains around, it is refreshing and pleasant in summer and autumn. The mountains are neither too high nor too low, just right for taking a stroll.
The currently developed Longtan Waterfall Sightseeing Area shows the five Longtan wells, mountain streams and waterfalls, and ancient dragon worship altars and other landscapes. During the tour, you can walk back and forth on foot throughout the whole journey. You can also take the sightseeing bus in the scenic area to the tourist square near the Sanjing Longtan at the halfway up the mountain. Starting from here and walking up the mountain on foot is relatively easy. If you walk here on foot throughout the whole journey, it takes about 1 hour to see the scenery and walk. There is a statue of a woman and four children on the square at the entrance of the scenic area, which tells the legend about the origin of Wulongtan. Following the signs of the walking trail and walking deep into the valley, after walking for about 40 minutes, you can see a huge red ‘dragon’ character carved on the mountain rock in the distance. The large waterfall in front of the carving pours down and is called ‘Baizhang Waterfall’. Here, not far ahead is the Wulong God’s Hall. At this point, you can faintly hear the sound of the pool water and stream in front. In the later tour, walking up the mountain along the walking trail, you can visit the five Longtan wells in sequence. The road is not very flat, but it is not too difficult to walk. In order, they are Fuzetang, Zhaozatang, Runzetang, Baitangtan, and Chitangtan. Although they are all combinations of waterfalls and pools, they have different shapes. Some pool waters are green and some are blue. Many people think that the fourth well is charming, and the fifth well is imposing. The water flow of the fifth well does not flow down directly like other waterfalls. Instead, it surges back and forth in the cavity between two huge rocks and finally falls into the pool. Between the fourth and fifth Longtan wells, there is a bamboo corridor teahouse. If you are tired from walking, you can drink tea and take a break here. In summer, tourists can often be seen playing with water and washing their faces by the stream, which is very cool. Walking a little further up from the fifth well, at the source of the pool water, there is a dragon worship altar, which is a place where local people pray for good weather. Although it is newly built, the towering dragon totem pole also has some imposing manner. There is an incense burner in front of the altar, and tourists can also pray for blessings here. Most people will turn back and go down the mountain at the dragon worship altar. If you walk up the mountain, it is recommended to return to the sightseeing bus station and take the bus out of the scenic area, saving time and effort and without having to retrace your steps.Opening hours: Open from 07:30 to 16:30 from May 1st to October 8th; open from 08:00 to 16:00 from October 9th to April 30th.
