The Ningguo Temple in Baoying was first built in the Tang Dynasty (637 AD). It was rebuilt during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It is the largest temple in the Lixiahe area. There is a saying of ‘running horses and closing the mountain gate’. The temple preserves a large number of precious cultural relics, including the priceless Buddhist relic of the Buddha’s true body, 500 rosewood arhats, a huge rosewood Ruyi, agate silicified wood from hundreds of millions of years ago, a cheat sheet for imperial examinations in the Song Dynasty, a carved picture of Sakyamuni preaching by Tian Huangshi, stone carved Buddha statues from the Northern and Southern Dynasties, ancient ceramics, and the seal of arhats carved by Lai Chusheng. They can be called rare treasures with extremely high cultural value and appreciation value. The Puguangming Hall in the temple courtyard is a very worthy scenic spot. Puguangming Hall is also called Luohantang. This is a large integrated exhibition hall with extremely exquisite decoration. In the center of the hall is a relief of Sakyamuni Buddha, showing people the historical scene of the Buddha personally preaching and ordaining 500 arhats. There are five hundred golden shrines, enshrining five hundred rosewood arhats. All of them are made of small-leaf rosewood, a world-famous precious tree that grows in island countries in Africa. They are exquisitely carved and unique in the world today. In addition, there is also the ancient city ruins of the Ming Dynasty – the City God Hall. It is a Taoist temple building in the Ming Dynasty. With black bricks and grey tiles, screen doors and partition fans, the wooden framework of the pillars in the hall is the original object of the original hall in the Ming Dynasty. It has important cultural relic value after hundreds of years. Opening hours: Peak season: 7:15 – 18:00. Off-season: 7:15 – 17:30.
