‘Golden Sound and Jade Vibrations’ is a grand ceremonial music performance permanently staged at the Rites and Music Hall in Nishan Sacred Land. As widely acknowledged, the cultural icon of Nishan Sacred Land is Confucius. In ‘Mencius·Wanzhang Chapter’, it was praised: ‘A great achievement, like the golden sound and jade vibrations. The golden sound signifies the beginning of order; the jade vibrations signify the end of order.

The beginning of order is the work of wisdom; the end of order is the work of sanctity.’ This phrase extols Confucius and the astonishing achievements of the ceremonial culture he advocated. Hence, we name the entire ceremonial music performance ‘Golden Sound and Jade Vibrations’. Confucius’ lifelong ideal pursuit was ceremonial music, and the outstanding representative of ceremonial music is ‘Shao Music’.

Therefore, in our creative process, we take ‘Shao Music’ as the main performance content, with ‘Confucius of the World’ and ‘The World of Confucius’ as our creative direction. We combine classical Chinese art forms such as poetry, music, and dance with cutting-edge contemporary artistic techniques like stage installations, large machinery, and holographic imaging to create an extremely shocking and splendid cultural and artistic masterpiece! Promoting a lifestyle of propriety and advocating traditional Chinese culture! In the sounds of ceremonial music, the elegance of a hundred generations is displayed; between heaven and earth, the gentleman’s style resonates! Ancient people described the subtlety and grand imagery of Shao Music with ‘Ninefold Xiaoshao, the phoenix comes to the ceremony’.

Thus, we divide the entire play into three acts, four seasons, and nine pieces – the musical poetry of ‘Wind, Elegance, and Praise’ in three acts; the cycle of ‘Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter’ in four seasons; three pieces in each act, three times three make nine, nine pieces form a symphony, and golden sound and jade vibrations bring a complete auspiciousness! Since the complete Shao Music has long been lost to the world, in the process of reorganizing, we are inspired by the great achievements of Confucius in promoting ceremonial music, and we take the three documents ‘Zhou Li’, ‘Li Ji’, and ‘Yi Li’ as sources of material and inspiration.

Meanwhile, we use the changes of ‘Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter’ as an internal emotional thread, coinciding with the natural cycle of heaven and earth and Confucius’ tireless pursuit throughout his life! The white egret will serve as an external symbol that runs through the plot. It is both the city bird of Qufu and a beautiful image depicted in ancient poetry. The entire play will witness the profoundness of Chinese ceremonial culture through the unique perspective we give it.

Open all year round from 09:30 to 17:00, performance times are subject to the day. Children’s policy: free for those under 1.2 meters (not including) in height, no seat included.
