Niu Shou Mountain Hongjue Temple Pagoda is located on the eastern peak of Niu Shou Mountain. It was originally constructed in the ninth year of the Tang Dynasty’s Dali era (774 AD) and is said to have been built by Emperor Daizong of Tang, Li Yu, after he had a dream. The pagoda was later destroyed, and the current structure is a reconstruction from the early Ming Dynasty.
Hongjue Temple Pagoda is one of the more majestic brick structures in Nanjing that mimics wooden architecture in a pavilion-style structure. It is also one of the oldest and largest brick pagodas existing in the Nanjing area.
The pagoda is open all year round and is accessible for external visits only.
