The Sacred Elephant Plaza is primarily composed of 12 uniquely shaped sacred elephants carrying scriptures on their backs, surrounding the central area. These 12 six-tusk white elephants, ridden by Sakyamuni, each measure 6 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 4 meters in height. Including the scripture pillars on their bodies, which are 9 meters tall, the overall height reaches 13.9 meters. The granite used to create these stone elephants is quarried from the Fujian Quanzhou mines. The number 12 symbolizes the cycle of time and the continuity of life. The scripture pillars on the elephants are engraved with representative scriptures from Tibetan Buddhism, Han Buddhism, and Theravada Buddhism on six sides, making it one of the largest granite monolithic carving groups in China. The plaza is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
