To the north of Xishi River, there was once a quiet street. The old wooden houses stretch in rows all the way to Xiushui Corridor. Along the riverbank and leaning against the willows, it is like a shy unmarried daughter from a neighbor’s family. This is ‘Nǚhóng Street’ (pronounced as ‘women’s work street’). Nǚhóng Street is an old neighborhood with a strong ancient and simple style. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, exquisite embroidery products from the areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Hubei once gathered here.
Embroidery workshops featuring embroidery took shape one after another, forming a unique ‘women’s embroidery street’ in Xizha, Wuzhen. It is also known as ’embroidery workshop street’, which is also the origin of ‘Nǚhóng Street’. Nowadays, Nǚhóng Street still maintains its historical original appearance. There are many characteristic small shops on both sides of the street, including some handicrafts, wood carvings, woven products, silk fabrics, tile paintings, pyrography, postcards, as well as coffee shops and dessert shops. Even if you don’t buy anything, it is also very interesting to take a stroll here. Open all year round and open all day.Nǚhóng Street
