Peace Park is located among lush pine and cypress trees, serene and elegant. The Huandu Tower is classical and graceful. It was built in 1940. Wang Jingwei betrayed the country and defected to the enemy. On March 30, the puppet national government was established in Nanjing. To avoid being called a traitor, Wang Jingwei cunningly described his act of defecting as the’return of the national government’ that had evacuated Nanjing. He built this tower in front of the puppet national government and named it the ‘Huandu Memorial Tower’. Nowadays, it is lush and green. It is a unique tranquility in the downtown area and also a treasured place in front of the Nanjing Municipal Government. People dance, do morning exercises here, and are leisurely and comfortable.
