People’s Square is truly a symbol of Shanghai. The zero-kilometer mark of Shanghai’s highways is located here. Municipal buildings, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the Shanghai Museum, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street are all gathered around. During the day, you can feed pigeons and stroll along the famous store street on the square. At night, you can play in the fountain. People’s Square is a not very large green space, but it is lush with trees and there are thousands of peace pigeons.
When tired from strolling, you can rest on a bench and feed the pigeons. In the center of the square is a fountain. At night, it sprays water about every half an hour and will continue to spray. It is very beautiful under the illumination of various colored lights. In summer, many children and adults always play in the water here. It is a good place to cool off. Underneath People’s Square are famous store streets and the Dimei Shopping Center, where there are various trendy clothes, accessories, nail salons, dessert shops and other fashionable stores. The entrances are on the northeast and southwest sides of the square and are connected to the subway station underground. Near Exit 2 of the subway, there is an Old Shanghai 1930 Style Street underground, which displays the old appearance of Shanghai in the 1930s. It is part of the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. People’s Square is a transportation hub in the city center. There are dozens of bus lines stopping on Tibet Middle Road in the east and Wusheng Road in the south. The subway lines 1, 2, and 8 also pass here. The subway exits closer to People’s Square are Exits 1 and 2, located in the northeast corner of the square. Open all year round and open all day.
