The Piano Museum displays more than 40 ancient pianos collected by Mr. Hu Youyi. These ancient pianos have different varieties and shapes. Most of them are well preserved. They all have carved patterns and wooden textures, full of classical atmosphere. The Piano Museum was built in 2000 and is located in ‘Tingtao Pavilion’ of Shuzhuang Garden. Among them, there are rare and precious gilded pianos, the world’s earliest square pianos and the earliest large upright pianos.
There are also ancient hand-cranked pianos, pedal automatic playing pianos produced a hundred years ago and ancient pianos with eight pedals. Most of these pianos have experienced two world wars. The candlestick lamps used as decorations also have a history of more than a hundred years. Visiting the Piano Museum is equivalent to browsing through the history of the world’s piano development. Among all the exhibits, a particularly special one is a fully automatic Heynes famous piano made in the United States in 1928, which vividly plays the works of Beethoven, Chopin and Brahms with rolls of punched guqin scores. It becomes the background music of the museum and is accompanied by the sound of waves hitting the shore on Gulangyu. There is also a piano that was once burned into two sections by a fire and then joined together. It has become a piano that cannot be played in the piano museum. It should be noted that the Piano Museum prohibits taking photos and touching. This is to better protect these commemorative and out-of-print pianos. Therefore, if tourists want to take pictures when they come here, they can only take pictures outside the gate. If you can play the piano, understand the piano, or are interested in the history of the piano, you will be intoxicated here. If you are a layman who knows nothing, you can also look at these strangely shaped pianos, get a touch of art and gain knowledge. In addition, there are piano performances at fixed times every day in the museum, which are very worth listening to!Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:15 to 17:45; Open all year round from 08:15 to 18:15.
