Pine and Stone Enlightenment Garden, also known as ‘Enlightenment Garden’, is located in the ancient town area of Tongli, adjacent to Jili, Taiping, and Changqing Bridges, and separated from the Pearl Pagoda Scenic Area by a wall. It is just a hundred steps away from the south of Fuguan Bridge. The garden covers an area of 1600 square meters, with lush vegetation, swaying bamboo shadows, and the interweaving of water and forest shades. The towering and majestic hundred-year-old ginkgo tree, like an umbrella, places the white office building amidst the greenery. The well-arranged white walls and black tiles further highlight the dignified and elegant parapet wall. The garden’s scenery is elegant and tranquil, making it a beautiful place for collecting and appreciating stones. The name of the garden comes from the collector’s poem: ‘In the Stone Skin Lane, the stone breaks through the stone skin to reveal the heavenly book; in the quiet of my heart, I comprehend and gain enlightenment.’ The garden aims to decipher the heavenly book and comprehend life, hence the name ‘Enlightenment Garden’. It displays over 1200 pieces of Song Ping stone slab paintings, which are the treasures collected with great effort by Mr. Zhang Jiaxin, former head of the design department of the Ministry of Railways, and his wife, Ms. Wang Yuejun, over thirty years (now donated to the Tongli government). The Pine and Stone Enlightenment Garden was built by the Tongli Town Government to permanently preserve this precious natural and cultural heritage. It is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
