Pingmen Gate is located in the northern part of Suzhou city. It was from this gate that Wu Zixu led his troops to victory over the state of Qi and returned victorious, hence the name. The ancient Pingmen Gate had been long sealed, but was reopened in 1928 for convenience of transportation, and later demolished in 1958. In September 2011, the Suzhou city government decided to rebuild the Pingmen Gate and move it to the west. The section of the city wall at Pingmen Gate is an important scenic spot for the south square of the train station and a key node in the protection belt of the ancient city’s style. Its restoration not only reflects the style of the ancient city but also provides citizens with new places for sightseeing, leisure, and tourism, and more centrally displays the image of the north gate area of the train station. Open all year round from 6:00 to 22:00.
