The Pingqiao Stone Dam was built from 1974 to 1979 and took five years to complete. It is built with masonry and no reinforced concrete is used. The Pingqiao River forms a waterfall along the dam. After rain, the sound and momentum are particularly great. “Stone Dam Waterfall” is one of the eight scenic spots in Liyang. When there is sunlight, a rainbow can also be seen.
The Pingqiao Stone Dam is located in Pingqiao Village south of Tianmu Lake. It is 1.5 kilometers away from the village. There are not many tourists coming to play. Generally, it is mainly self-driving tourists. The dam is 24 meters high and the dam crest is 108 meters long. The flowing water falls directly from 13 spillways and splashes in the deep pool. After looking at the waterfall and pool from below the dam, step by step up to the dam crest through 70 stone steps. You can walk on the long bridge of the stone dam and look down at the waterfall from a different angle.
If there is enough time, you can also walk along the mountain path behind the stone dam to see one of the water sources of Tianmu Lake – the Pingqiao River flowing among the forests, as well as small scenic spots such as toad stones. There are even fewer tourists in the back mountain. Listening to the birds singing in the empty mountain makes people feel comfortable.
