Po Pin Chau is located on the eastern coastal area of the Sai Kung Peninsula in the New Territories, known for its spectacular hexagonal rock formations. Around the Jurassic period, the area experienced multiple volcanic explosions, which ejected large amounts of lava and volcanic ash. The ash that cooled near the volcanic vent formed columns with hexagonal cross-sections.
