Powerlong Museum in Shanghai, adhering to the spirit of ‘promoting the essence of traditional culture and advancing contemporary art,’ is a comprehensive, private non-profit art museum showcasing modern and contemporary art. The museum covers an area of 23,000 square meters and features ten exhibition halls ranging from 500 to 1100 square meters in size. It focuses on exploring the Eastern cultural context as its core academic positioning and strives to become an excellent platform for cultural and artistic display and exchange through a variety of activities such as art exhibitions, academic exchanges, and public education.

On November 18, 2017, the museum officially opened with two exhibitions: ‘Shu Cang Lou Collection Exhibition’ and ‘Powerlong Museum Opening Exhibition.’ The ‘Shu Cang Lou Collection Exhibition’ mainly collects the finest works of modern and contemporary calligraphy and painting masters from across the country. As a permanent exhibition of the museum, it formally presents to the public a systematic display of representative works by artists from various regions and schools in China over the past century, including works by Qi Baishi, Wu Hufan, Huang Yongyu, and Huang Zhou, among others.

The opening exhibition, themed ‘Tracing the Pulse, Creating Mountains,’ provides a comprehensive review and prospect of Eastern modern and contemporary art, which is not yet fully explored in Chinese history. It covers various art forms such as painting, calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, gardens, images, as well as traditional opera and qin music.
