Pukou Park

Pukou Park was established in 1951, with the district government allocating reed beach land to build the park as a relief project. The park was designed to fit the landscape, with low-lying areas turned into streams and ponds, and excavated earth used to create mounds and hills. Two ponds were dug, covering an area of 7000 square meters, and a stream channel of approximately 1600 meters was opened. A small island was built in the southern pond, on which a hexagonal pavilion was constructed.

On the side of the park adjacent to the highway, a children’s playground was built, equipped with traditional simple children’s play facilities. In the eastern corner of the park, a three-turn flower corridor was established, and ironwood benches were placed by the pools in the woods for visitors to rest.

The park was completed in 1952 and was named ‘Liangpu Park’, under the leadership of the Pukou District Construction Section’s Greening Team, becoming the first district-owned park in Nanjing City. In 1955, the park was renamed Pukou People’s Park, commonly referred to as Pukou Park. It features a children’s paradise, Qi Fang Garden, artificial lakes, water pavilions, artificial hills, lawns, and a garden within the garden. The park is open all year round, with full-day access.
