Bai Que Temple, the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced before her enlightenment, is located on the eastern slope of Xian Ren Ridge in Putuo District, approximately 400 meters from the coast at Ta Wan Jin Sha. According to historical records, King Miaozhuang, desperate to see his daughter, repeatedly called for her return but she did not come. In anger, he ordered the temple to be set on fire. Princess Miaoshan was guided by a white sparrow, escaping the fire in the rear hall. She bit her fingers and sprayed a rain of blood, extinguishing the flames, thus narrowly escaping the disaster. She later cultivated and achieved enlightenment, becoming the compassionate Guanyin Bodhisattva. The temple is open from 7:00 to 17:00 all year round.
