The Qian family, a prominent and influential family from Wuxi, boasts Qian Zhongshu as one of its most distinguished members, often referred to as the ‘Cultural Kunlun.’ His former residence, which was initiated by his grandfather Qian Fuchang in 1923, is a traditional Jiangnan courtyard-style residence that has been transformed into a museum.
This museum employs modern display techniques to showcase the extraordinary life of Qian Zhongshu, which is divided into five thematic parts:
1. ‘Quick-witted and studious,’ ‘Dragon among men,’ which reflect Qian Zhongshu’s academic journey.
2. ‘Diligent cultivation,’ ‘Master of literature,’ highlighting his multifaceted roles as a scholar, professor, poet, and writer, and his remarkable success in literary creation.
3. ‘Erudite and profound,’ ‘Cultural Kunlun,’ showcasing his contributions to Chinese culture through his painstaking writing of millions of words of academic masterpieces.
4. ‘Globally renowned,’ ‘Illuminating future generations,’ demonstrating his influence as an outstanding intellectual and scholar of the twentieth century.
5. ‘Qian Shengwu Hall,’ ‘Talents emerging,’ which reflect the brilliant achievements of other distinguished members of the Qian family.
The museum is open all year round, operating from Tuesday to Sunday between 09:00 and 16:30, and is closed all day on Mondays.
