Qiandao Lake Botanical Garden is situated on Qingxin Island, in the central lake area of Qiandao Lake, 800 meters away from the central lake area’s tourist service center. It is surrounded by water on all sides and connected to the outside world by a bridge. The island is lush with vegetation and has an elegant environment, resembling a running fawn. It once housed sika deer from the Northeast, and with a suitable climate, these deer have been revered as auspicious symbols throughout history. Therefore, Qingxin Island is also known as Deer Island. Covering an area of 180 acres, the garden focuses on forest ecosystem restoration of Qiandao Lake’s Qingxin Island and serves as an outstanding example of Chun’an’s comprehensive management of the lakefront area, returning lakes to the people and land to the forests. The entire scenic area is divided into one axis, one core, one belt, and five areas. It features distinctive landscapes such as Sky Mirror, Wedding Lawn, Wisteria Tunnel, and Weeping Cherry Courtyard. The garden aims to create a comprehensive botanical garden with functions of plant conservation, science education, sightseeing, leisure, and product display. The garden has defined over 1000 plant species, including more than 300 varieties of hydrangeas, encompassing almost all classic varieties of hydrangeas. A large area of original natural vegetation is preserved in the northwest part of the park. The main dominant tree species in the mixed coniferous and broadleaf forest are Masson’s pine, natural forest, approximately 63 years old. The broadleaf forest includes species such as oak, holly, elm, maple, camphor, boxwood, yellow sandalwood, oak, ligustrum, Chinese sterculia, beech, Chinese cork oak, and plane tree. The forest also has bamboo plants such as Mao bamboo, Gang bamboo, bitter bamboo, and water bamboo. The main shrub tree species include photinia, Eurya, rhododendron, and witch hazel. In the ecological restoration plots, various types of greening seedlings such as cherry blossoms, plum, osmanthus, yew, red maple, ginkgo, maple, French holly, and peach are planted. The garden is open from 09:00 to 17:30 all year round; from 09:00 to 17:00 all year round, with no fixed latest entry time, it is recommended to reserve one hour for the visit. The above information is for reference only, and the actual information on the day of the visit at the scenic area should prevail.
