Qingguo Lane

Qingguo Lane extends from Heping North Road in the east to Nanjie Street, a bustling road in Changzhou in the west. To the south is the moat. It is about 1 kilometer long. The slightly dilapidated old houses in the lane form a sharp contrast with the surrounding high-rise buildings. There are still a few residents living sporadically in the old houses. Although it doesn’t have a glamorous appearance, it still retains some traces of city life.

Qingguo Lane was built before the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1581 AD). At that time, the canal entered the Xishuiguan from the Wenheng Bridge, passed through Dongxiatang and Xixiatang, and meandered eastward after passing through the city and exiting the Dongshuiguan. Qingguo Lane faces the canal section in the urban area, where ships gather. It is a distribution center for fruits from north and south.

All kinds of fruit shops are opened along the coast. It was formerly known as ‘Qianguo Lane’. In Qingguo Lane, there is the Baguitang, located at No. 82, Qingguo Lane. It was built after Tang Jingchuan, a famous person in Changzhou, passed the imperial examination and became a Huiyuan. To commemorate ‘winning laurels in the imperial examinations’, he planted eight osmanthus trees in his residence, known as ‘Baguitang’.

Many celebrities emerged from Qingguo Lane. Zhuang Kai, an industrialist in the Qing Dynasty, Qian Weicheng, the number one scholar and painter, and his younger brother Qian Weiqiao, and Zhang Zanchen, the general manager of Pingxiang Coal Mine and Hanyang Iron Works. Walking around in the lane, you can find the former residences of celebrities. Opening hours: Open all day all year round. Tips: 1.

It is close to Biji Lane, Nanjie Street Business and Leisure Tourism Area and the ancient canal, and can be visited together. 2. The plot of the TV series ‘Qingguo Lane’ revolves around the protection of the lane. If you are interested, you can watch it.
