The Qinhuai River is a right-bank tributary of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It was called Longzangpu in ancient times. Since the Han Dynasty, it has been called Huai River. After the Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Qinhuai River. The Qinhuai River has two sources, the north source Jurong River originates from the southern foot of Baohua Mountain in Jurong City. The south source Lishui River originates from Donglu Mountain in Lishui District, Nanjing City. The two rivers merge into the main stream of the Qinhuai River at Xicun, Fangshan Dai, Jiangning District, Nanjing City. It bypasses Fangshan and flows northwest to Shangfangmen, the outer city gate. It flows into Nanjing City from Dongshuiguan and traverses the urban area from east to west. The southern part flows out from Xishuiguan and empties into the Yangtze River. The Qinhuai River is the mother river of Nanjing and has witnessed the development of the entire civilization of Nanjing. With its rich cultural heritage and innate conditions, it was already a settlement for prominent families during the Six Dynasties. The Ming and Qing Dynasties were the heyday of the development on both banks of the Qinhuai River.
