The Qinwang Palace Scenic Area is located in Hengdian World Studios. It was built in 1997 for the famous director Chen Kaige to shoot the historical blockbuster ‘The Emperor and the Assassin’. Here can be said to be the cradle of many blockbuster films and historical dramas. Nearly a hundred film and television blockbusters such as ‘Hero’, ‘A Step into the Past’, ‘The Mummy 3’ and ‘Schemes of a Beauty’ have been filmed here. The prototype of the imitation construction of the Qinwang Palace Scenic Area is the main palace of the Qin Dynasty – Xianyang Palace. The scenic area is huge in scale, complex in shape and strict in layout. There are 27 magnificent palaces of various kinds. One tower every five steps and one pavilion every ten steps. The lofty city wall and the palace hall complement each other, vividly showing the majestic momentum of Qin Shihuang annexing the six kingdoms and unifying the world. The main scenic spot in the scenic area is the Hall of Unifying the World. It is divided into the front hall, middle hall and back hall, with a depth of more than 120 meters. It stands majestically, towering and straight. It is the place where the King of Qin holds court and governs. This was once the shooting location of Zhang Yimou’s film ‘Hero’ and the popular Hong Kong TV series ‘A Step into the Past’. Now tourists can put on costumes and take pictures sitting on the throne (for a fee). The center of the hall has been transformed into a huge wishing pool by the scenic area, in which there are many coins thrown in by tourists shining golden. The ninety-nine steps in front of the hall, every day there are actors performing the parade performance of the emperor’s ascension to the throne. The Dongwang Tower next to the Hall of Unifying the World was once the shooting location of ‘Hero’. Now in the side hall on the east side next to the tower, you can enjoy the performance show ‘Heroes’ Sword Competition’. In the Xiwang Tower, you can see ‘Dream Back to the Qin and Han Dynasties’. In addition, in the Longdi Jinglin Theater next to the west palace gate, you can see the 4D film ‘The Surprise of the Dragon Emperor’ shot against the wonderful plot of the Hollywood film ‘The Mummy 3’. In addition, there is a Huayang Terrace on the west side of the Qinwang Palace. It is the palace of the King of Yan and has a completely different style from the Qinwang Palace. Thus, the shooting base of the Qinwang Palace not only reproduces the characteristics of Qin and Jin cultures, but also has the characteristics of Yan and Zhao architectural cultures. One base, two palaces, highly concentrated. Next to Huayang Terrace, there is a ‘Han Street’, which fully shows the style of streets during the Qin and Han Dynasties. However, these two scenic spots are exclusive shooting areas for film crews and are not open to tourists at ordinary times. Of course, if you are lucky, maybe you can meet a few stars.
