Qiyan Temple is located on the eastern outskirts of Bengbu, atop the Zhuzi Mountain, and was originally built during the Han Dynasty. It is named Qiyan Temple because the temple is constructed on the rocks. The Buddha Hall, monk’s chambers, and scripture pavilion are all made of white stone, hence it is also commonly known as the White Stone Temple.

The temple was destroyed by war during the Sui and Tang dynasties, but was rebuilt in the early Tang Dynasty. After several wars, it was fortunate to be restored by the right people. Through the generations, it was embellished and by the time of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang in the early Ming Dynasty, the Buddha Hall, monk’s chambers, scripture pavilion, and pagodas were reconstructed, with pavilions and towers connected, making it a spectacular sight, and for a time, it was extremely prosperous.
