**On the 71st Anniversary of the Liberation of Shanghai:**
Let’s take stock of the 45 forts scattered in the central urban areas of Shanghai.

**I. Introduction:**
From May 7th, over a period of 18 days, I explored seven districts including Xuhui (3), Minhang (2), Changning (4), Hongkou (6), Yangpu (3), Pudong (10), and Baoshan (17), researching more than forty existing forts in Shanghai. These forts have witnessed the Battle of Songhu, the Anti-Japanese War, the Battle of Shanghai, and the period of anti-revisionist defense. The construction dates range from the Japanese occupation, the Kuomintang period, to after the liberation.

**II. Inventory of Forts Scattered Throughout Shanghai:**

**1. Xuhui District (3):**
– This fort is located in the bustling city yet remains unnoticed by the common people. The exact location is inside the central garden at the corner of Qinzhou Road and Tianlin East Road (south side of Tianlin East Road, east side of Qinzhou Road), close to the Pu Huitang River. Seeing this sign means you are close to finding it.
– The following fort is located on the inside left turn of the east gate of Kangjian Park, a one-minute walk away.
– The following fort is located at No. 10 Dongping Road, Xuhui District. Upon inspection, it was discovered that it is not a fort but a hiding hole.

**2. Minhang District (2):**
– This fort is located inside the Minhang District Cultural Park. It is well-hidden and not well-known; even passing by it, one might not realize it is there.
– The fort is located on the north side of the Liuhua South Road Bridge in Minhang District, close to the south side near Luoxiu Road.

**3. Changning District (4):**
– This fort is located inside the Changhong Community at No. 996 Hongqiao Road.
– The following fort is located at the corner of the courtyard outside the ground floor resident’s home at No. 89, 996 Hongqiao Road (Changhong Community).
– The following fort is located at the entrance of No. 64, 1829 Hongqiao Road, Changning District.
– The following fort is located on the public leisure green space inside the community at No. 377 Honggu Road, Changning District.

**4. Hongkou District (6):**
– The following fort is located to the right of the entrance at No. 38, 4 Lane, Changzhong Road.
– The following fort is located on the north side of the 1876 Old Station Creative Park, to the west of the Songhu Railway, and south of the Jiangwan Station on the Songhu Line.
– The following fort is located at the 1933 Old Workshop in Hongkou District, next to the tall red chimney in the northern part of the old workshop, there is a fort with its exterior plastered over with cement. It should also be considered a fort within the inner ring road. Unfortunately, the construction date and the builder, as well as the reason for its construction, are unknown.
– The following fort is located behind the storefront at No. 21 Dalian West Road and at the entrance of No. 270, 4 Ping Road, Xingfu Village. This fort is the largest one seen so far (estimated area of about 70 square meters).
– The following pillbox is located at the entrance of No. 7, Lane 510, Wenshui East Road.
– The following pillbox is located on the left side of No. 21, Guangling First Village.

**5. Yangpu District (3):**
– The following pillbox is located at the entrance of No. 50, Fengcheng Third Village, Yangpu District.
– The following pillbox is located in front of the patio of No. 110 in Fengcheng Second Village 2 Community (outside the wall), opposite the entrance of No. 81, directly opposite the trash can, and at the back of the notice board. ThisPudong New Area:
– The following pillbox is located in the bicycle shed of the community at Lane 501, Lancun Road, Pudong New Area, corresponding to a corner of the patio of the owner on the ground floor of No. 8, Lane 501.
– The following pillbox is located outside the patio of No. 616, Weifang Sixth Village, Pudong New Area (adjacent to it), facing the door of No. 612.
– The following pillbox is located on the sidewalk (along the street) at the entrance of No. 1527, Pudong South Road, Pudong New Area.
– The following pillbox is located at No. 7, Lane 420, Eshan Road, Pudong New Area.
– The following pillbox is located on the sidewalk along the street at No. 96, Miaopu Road, Pudong New Area.
– The following pillbox is located on the green belt at the entrance of No. 8, Jingxi First Village, Yangjing Town, Pudong New Area.

Baoshan District:
– The following pillbox is located in Baoshan Shicun Community, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located at the intersection of Jiangyang North Road and Taihe Road in Baoshan District. Strictly speaking, it is on Taihe Road, on the west side of Jiangyang North Road.
– The following pillbox is located at the intersection of Jiangyang North Road (west side) and Tiecheng Road, north of Jiangyang North Road Agricultural Products Wholesale Market.
– The following pillbox is located in Yanghang Middle School in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in Miaoxing Park in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in Gonghe Park in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in Sitang Park in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located at the end of Aihui Road by the Wenzaobang River in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located on the south bank of the river, on the west side of the Yunzaobang Bridge on Gonghe New Road in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located on the south bank of the Meipu River, east of the Tiefeng Road Meipu River Bridge in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in the woods along the railway tracks inside No. 8, Lane 1081, Jiangyang North Road, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in the thirteenth team of Sitang Village, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in the factory building of Huayi Packaging Co., Ltd. at No. 3366, Baoyang Road, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located in the factory building of Huayi Packaging Co., Ltd. at No. 3366, Baoyang Road, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located 10 meters southwest of No. 1788, Baoyang Road, Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located at the junction of Baotaihe Road and Tieyi Road in Baoshan District.
– The following pillbox is located at the junction of Fuchang Road and Taihe West Road in Baoshan District.
