Sanwei Study is located in the scenic area of Lu Xun’s former residence. Lu Xun studied here for five years in his youth. When tourists come here, they will inevitably recall the words in the childhood text ‘From Baicao Garden to Sanwei Study’ and the story of Lu Xun carving a small ‘early’ character in the lower right corner of his desk. Baicao Garden and Sanwei Study are not far apart. You can follow Lu Xun’s footprints and come all the way from Baicao Garden. Walk a few hundred meters east from Baicao Garden and cross a stone slab bridge, and you will arrive. Entering Sanwei Study, the old private school comes into view. Although it has been renovated later, the furnishings inside basically maintain the original appearance of that year and are almost the same as the description in the text. In the middle of the study hangs a plaque with ‘Sanwei Study’. Under the plaque hangs a ‘Picture of Pine and Deer’. Beside it is the portrait of Mr. Shou Jingwu. In the past, students had to salute the plaque and the picture before starting to read. There is an octagonal table in the middle of the study. The high-backed chair at the back is for the teacher. Around are the students’ desks. Since they are brought by the students themselves, they look various. The desk where Lu Xun carved the ‘early’ character is hidden in the left corner. There is a sign beside it so that people can recognize it at a glance. This hardwood desk with two drawers is the original one that Lu Xun used back then. Unfortunately, it is blocked by a fence and can only be seen from a distance. The ‘early’ character on it is almost impossible to see clearly. In the small garden behind the study, there is a brick flower bed. You can also see the scene described in the article: ‘There is also a garden behind Sanwei Study. Although it is small, you can climb up the flower bed to pick wintersweet flowers and look for cicada sloughs on the ground or on osmanthus trees’. Nowadays, wintersweet, nandina, and osmanthus are planted here. It is also a nice small garden for tourists to imagine Lu Xun’s childhood joys. In front of Sanwei Study, there is a wharf for black-awning boats. You can take a black-awning boat to Xianheng Hotel, which is a good water town experience. There are also other routes to choose from, and the prices are different for different routes (specifically, you can see the price list at the wharf).
