The scenic area of Lu Xun’s hometown is a historical block in Shaoxing City. This is where the literary giant Lu Xun lived in his youth. The scenic area not only preserves many old buildings of that time but also restores landscapes such as the Tugu Temple and the Shou Family’s Gate described by Mr. Lu Xun. Scenes from childhood textbooks such as the Hundred-Plant Garden and the Sanwei Study can also be found here.
On both sides of the main road in the scenic area are white walls and black tiles. You can enter Lu Xun’s former residence to visit the place where he was born. There is also the ‘Hundred-Plant Garden’ behind the house, which was his childhood paradise. Or go to the ‘Sanwei Study’ to take a look at the desk used by young Lu Xun when he was studying. You can also go to the ‘Xianheng Hotel’, take a photo with the bronze statue of ‘Kong Yiji’, eat some fennel beans and have a bowl of yellow rice wine to taste the slow life in Shaoxing style. In the scenic area, you can also visit the large residence where Lu Xun’s ancestors lived for generations, the ‘Customs Garden’ described by Lu Xun, the memorial hall displaying Lu Xun’s life story, and the Changqing Temple where Lu Xun was a registered disciple when he was young. If you are impressed by Lu Xun’s works, you can also go to the Tugu Temple and the Jingxiu Nunnery mentioned in ‘The True Story of Ah Q’, and the pawnshop ‘Hengji Pawnshop’ mentioned in ‘Call to Arms’ to feel the real architectural scenes in his works. This block is not long but has the charm of an ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River. There are many shops on both sides of the street. You can taste Shaoxing stinky tofu and dragon’s beard candy sold on the street.
