The large bronze art treasure ‘Sculpture of One Hundred Children Playing with Maitreya’ is located on the right side of Ashoka Pillar Square under the Lingshan Giant Buddha in Wuxi. The Maitreya Buddha is 3 meters high, 7.8 meters wide, and weighs 9 tons. It is festive and auspicious and deeply loved by tourists. The reclining Maitreya has a kind expression and a beaming smile. On Maitreya’s huge body, there are exactly one hundred little urchins who are playing and frolicking. Each has a different appearance and is very vivid. Some are doing human pyramids, some are performing acrobatics, some are having a tug-of-war, some are cleaning their ears, some are rolling around, some are poking Maitreya’s belly button with small branches. There are even naughty ones who actually pee on Maitreya. The one hundred children are scattered all over Maitreya, making people unable to hold back their laughter. One hundred children playing and climbing on the smiling Maitreya add a bit of liveliness to the solemn Lingshan Mountain.
