Shangfang Temple is located in Wujindang, Xinghua City. It was built in the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty. In the early Qing Dynasty, it reached its peak. Emperors Yongzheng and Qianlong traveled here many times and left their autographs and imperial treasures. It is known as ‘the first temple in northern Jiangsu’ and is a famous waterborne Buddhist resort. Now, the Ciyun Bridge, mountain gate, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Depository, Precept Platform Hall, east side hall, east wing room, release pond, platform and other building complexes have been completed. Shangfang Temple is surrounded by water on all sides. The square bamboo, peonies, wintersweet and flowers and trees of four seasons in the courtyard set off the vast pool. In the distance, wild goose households and fishing villages are scattered on the lake and river. The waters surrounding the temple are like Dharma-protecting heavenly dragons, occupying the spiritual aura of feng shui in the city. The Mahavira Hall of Shangfang Temple is 25 meters high, majestic, resplendent and magnificent, exquisitely constructed. Its volume is the largest in Jiangsu and the second largest in the country. In the center of the release pond in front of the hall stands an 8-meter-high statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Opening hours: Open from 8:00 to 18:00 all year round. Specific opening hours are subject to the actual situation on that day.
