The Shanghai Baoshan International Folk Art Museum is currently the only cultural and artistic venue in China that focuses on showcasing the folk art and ethnic cultures from around the world. It integrates collection and display, interactive exchange, heritage research, and social service into a not-for-profit public cultural facility, characterized by its international, artistic, technological, and interactive aspects.
The museum was opened on October 16, 2010. Its architectural design is inspired by the traditional Chinese knot, a symbol of folk culture, and has a total construction area of 14,600 square meters. The museum is also recognized as a National AAAA-level tourist attraction, one of the first national public cultural service system demonstration projects, a Shanghai intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance base, and a Shanghai science popularization base. Opening hours: 09:00-16:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day; 09:00-16:00 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year; the museum is closed all day on Mondays.
