The Shanghai Botanical Garden is situated in the southern part of Shanghai, close to the South Railway Station and the South Bus Station. It is not far from the city center and is known for its lush greenery, attracting many locals for daily walks and exercise. Many fishing enthusiasts gather along the riverbank. The garden boasts a variety of flowers and plants, allowing visitors to enjoy the graceful blossoms throughout the year. Themed flower exhibitions are often held, showcasing rare species, making it an ideal spot for flower appreciation and photography.


There are four entrances to the Shanghai Botanical Garden, all conveniently located near bus stops. The 4th entrance on the north side is closest to Line 3 of the rail transit system. Entrances 1 and 2 are located on Longwu Road to the east. Visitors arriving by car can park in the main parking lot next to Entrance 2. The garden is not too large, and it can generally be covered within two hours. The scenic area includes an exhibition greenhouse, bonsai garden, and orchid house as three specialized parks. Spring is the peak season for flower viewing, especially from March to May when cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and tulips are in full bloom, drawing large crowds. In summer, visitors can stroll through the cool bamboo garden or admire the lotus flowers; in autumn, one can appreciate chrysanthemums, or visit the maple garden with its red maples and the magnolia garden with its yellow tulip trees, as well as the rose garden with hawthorn, photinia, and begonia plants; in winter, the exhibition greenhouse offers a view of various exotic tropical plants.


In addition to flower viewing, bicycles can be rented for cycling within the garden, or visitors can take a boat ride on the river. Near Entrance 4, there is also a children’s playground where kids can enjoy rides like the small train, carousel, and bumper cars. After visiting the botanical garden, one can also visit the famous ancient temple, Longhua Temple. It is very convenient to take a transportation vehicle from the bus stop outside Entrance 2. The garden is open year-round from 07:00 to 17:00.
