Shanghai, the birthplace of modern printing in China, has seen the joint establishment of the Chinese Printing Exhibition Hall by Shanghai Zhonghua Printing Co., Ltd. and The Commercial Press Shanghai Printing Co., Ltd. The exhibition hall takes the history of modern printing development in Shanghai as its chronological thread, with the theme of ‘Printing makes culture more splendid and the world more civilized.
‘ It showcases the historical changes, development profiles, and contributions of major Chinese publishing and printing enterprises such as The Commercial Press, Zhonghua Book Company, and printing houses to the revitalization of the national printing industry, the promotion of Chinese excellent culture, and the prosperity of China’s publishing and printing endeavors through thousands of precious historical photos and artifacts. The exhibition hall includes sections on the labor movement history and martyrs of The Commercial Press and Zhonghua Book Company, which are parts of Shanghai’s labor movement history and also the history of the Communist Party of Shanghai. The Chinese Printing Exhibition Hall is composed of the preface hall, development history hall, corporate culture hall, technology and quality hall, production equipment hall, printing knowledge hall, and modern product hall, with a total exhibition area of 1500 square meters. The exhibition briefly introduces the technology, equipment, processes, and characteristics of plate making, printing, and binding, and details the origins and development history of ancient Chinese woodblock printing and movable type printing.
