The Shanghai Grand Theatre is located in the bustling area of People’s Square, with its south side facing Renmin Avenue and its east side adjacent to the Municipal Building. The architectural style is innovative and unique, blending the cultural essence of both the East and West. The white curved dome and the light-sensitive glass curtain wall are organically combined, creating a crystal-like palace under the glow of lights, making it a landmark of Shanghai.
Inside the theatre, there is a nearly 2000 square meter lobby serving as a leisure area for the audience. The main color of the lobby is white, with a large crystal chandelier composed of six flute lamp frames hanging from the ceiling. The floor is made of the rare Greek crystal white marble, patterned like piano keys, with white giant marble pillars and steps on both sides exuding a strong sense of rhythm.

The main auditorium has 1800 seats, divided into three tiers of balconies, with the proportions between each tier determined by the harmony of visual and auditory structures, belonging to the ‘French style’ structure. Located on the first floor of the Grand Theatre, the auditorium is divided into three levels, decorated luxuriously, with comfortable and luxurious seats, capable of accommodating 600 audience members, suitable for various medium and small-scale artistic performances such as chamber music, drama, and children’s plays.

It is a key venue for fashionable small dramas in Shanghai. Since its opening in 1998, the Shanghai Grand Theatre has successfully staged operas, musicals, ballets, symphonies, chamber music, dramas, and various other large-scale performances and variety shows, making it an important window for cultural exchange between China and other countries and a bridge for artistic communication.
