The Shanghai Grand Theatre is located in the bustling area of People’s Square. It is bordered by People’s Avenue to the south and the Municipal Building to the east. The architectural style is innovative and unique, blending the cultural essence of the East and West. The white curved dome and the light-sensitive glass curtain wall are organically combined, making it look like a crystal palace under the light, and it is a landmark building in Shanghai.
Inside the theatre, there is a nearly 2000 square meter lobby serving as a leisure area for the audience. The main color of the lobby is white, with a large crystal chandelier composed of six flute lamp frames hanging from the ceiling. The floor is made of the rare Greek crystal white marble, resembling piano keys. The white giant marble columns and the steps on both sides have a strong sense of rhythm.

The main part of the theatre consists of the main auditorium, the medium-sized auditorium, and the small auditorium. The main auditorium has 1800 seats, divided into three levels of auditoriums, with the proportion between each level determined by the harmony of vision and hearing, belonging to the ‘French-style’ structure. The audience hall on the first floor of the Grand Theatre is divided into three levels, decorated with splendor, comfortable and luxurious seats, and can accommodate 600 spectators, suitable for holding chamber music, drama, children’s drama and other types of medium and small-scale artistic performances.

It is an important venue for fashionable small dramas in Shanghai. Since its opening in 1998, the Shanghai Grand Theatre has successfully staged operas, musicals, ballets, symphonies, chamber music, dramas, operas and other large-scale performances and variety shows, and it is an important window for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries and a bridge for artistic communication.
