Located at the heart of the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Park, adjacent to the central lake and backed by the Twin Hills, the Shanghai Greenhouse Garden covers an area of approximately 22,000 square meters with a total construction area of about 40,000 square meters, both above and below ground. It is a multifunctional ecological complex integrating sightseeing, leisure, and entertainment.
The exterior design, through the transformation and utilization of the old factory of the former Shanghai No.3 Steel Factory, combines historical memory with modern elements, creating a naturally elegant cloud-like curve.
The Shanghai Greenhouse Garden consists of four pavilions, including 1 Visitor Service Center and 3 themed pavilions (namely, Pavilion 1 – Sea City Sandbar, Pavilion 2 – Cloud Forest, and Pavilion 3 – Misty Gorge). The three themed pavilions are categorized based on the plant habitats, combining the spatial structure of the architecture, selecting typical ecological fragments from the world’s ecosystems, and creating three environmental types: tropical arid, tropical wet shade-tolerant, and tropical wet sunlight-loving, showcasing tropical arid plants, tropical rainforest plants, and tropical flowering plants.
The exhibition strives to extend from plants to museums and culture, creating an immersive exhibition greenhouse that is both visually appealing and enjoyable. In the future, multimedia imaging, artistic lighting, and mobile interaction, and other high-tech means will be introduced to create a unique and fantastic night tour experience. Stay tuned.
Opening hours: All year round, open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; closed all day on Monday; open during the Spring Festival from 09:00 to 17:00.
