The Shanghai History Museum, also known as the Shanghai Revolutionary History Museum, is located at 325 West Nanjing Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Situated in the historical preservation area around People’s Square and to the west of People’s Park, the museum covers an area of 10,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive museum that reflects the 6,000-year-old local and revolutionary history of Shanghai.


In 1983, it was established as the ‘Shanghai Historical Relics Exhibition Hall’; in July 1991, it was renamed to its current title; on May 27, 1984, it officially opened to the public; and in October 1991, it reopened at its new location at 1286 Hongqiao Road. The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00; it is closed all day on Mondays, with special notices for national holidays.


Important tip: The museum is closed on Mondays.
