The Shanghai International Circuit is adjacent to the International Auto City, located 30 kilometers from the city center, and covers an area of approximately 5.3 square kilometers. It serves as the official venue for the Chinese leg of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The circuit’s spectator stands are designed to accommodate around 200,000 people, including 50,000 seats in the main and auxiliary stands, with the rest being temporary slope stands.
The design of the race track and main buildings is undertaken by the German company Tilke, a professional F1 circuit design firm appointed by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The main building and other key structures cover an area of about 150,000 square meters, including the main and auxiliary stands, race control center, press center, team living area, and pit stops. These buildings incorporate a design concept that blends modern shapes with traditional Chinese culture.
Since 2004, this venue has hosted numerous world-class competitions. It is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, from 09:00 to 16:00.
