The Shanghai Maglev Train starts at Longyang Road Station on Metro Line 2 and ends at Pudong’s Terminals 1 and 2 Station, covering a total length of 30 kilometers. The single line journey takes only 7 minutes and 20 seconds, making it the world’s first high-speed maglev train in commercial operation, with departure intervals ranging from 15 to 40 minutes.
The Maglev Train utilizes the principle of ‘like poles repel, unlike poles attract’, enabling magnets to resist gravity, allowing the train to levitate about 1 centimeter above the track, creating a near ‘zero-altitude’ space flight miracle. The Shanghai Maglev Train is designed to travel at a speed of 430 km/h, with an actual speed of approximately 380 km/h. The radius of the curve is as large as 8000 meters, which appears almost straight to the naked eye, and the smallest radius is 1300 meters, ensuring passengers do not feel discomfort.
Advanced isolation devices are installed on both sides of the track within a 50-meter range. The Maglev Train’s windows are made of speed-reducing glass, allowing passengers to better enjoy the scenery outside. The speed-reducing glass has a curvature at the edges where it contacts the train body, which causes a distortion of the external scenery when passing through the curvature, affecting the vision of passengers inside and creating a deceleration effect. Additionally, there are fading dotted black decorative edges on the windshield, which also play a certain role.
The operating hours are from 06:45 to 21:42 all year round. The first train departs from Longyang Road to Pudong Terminals 1 and 2 at 6:45, and from Pudong Terminals 1 and 2 to Longyang Road at 7:10. The last train departs from Longyang Road to Pudong Terminals 1 and 2 at 21:40, and from Pudong Terminals 1 and 2 to Longyang Road at 21:42.
