The Shanghai Metro Museum, with a total construction area of 5000 square meters and an exhibition area of 2800 square meters, is dedicated to the history, functionality, culture, and global perspective of the metro system. The museum tells the story of Shanghai’s metro through several major sections, including the history of metro development, metro functionality, metro culture, and world metros.

Inside the museum, visitors can find historical and physical exhibits such as the ‘Preliminary Plan for Shanghai Underground Railway (Draft)’ and geological models of Shanghai metro stations. Additionally, designers have used new technologies like sound, light, and color effects to present a multitude of exhibits. For instance, visitors can play a train DIY assembly game on a touch screen, where they can assemble the train body, front, doors, pantograph, and more, as well as color the train and match it with ribbons, and then print their ‘constructed’ train.

Opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, all year round; the museum is closed all day on Mondays, with specific business conditions subject to the day’s opening status.
