The Shanghai Museum houses a collection of bronze artifacts dating back to the Xia Dynasty, many of which are nationally treasured and well-documented, forming a complete, diverse, and high-quality collection. The ‘Ancient Chinese Bronzes’ exhibition at the East Pavilion is the sixth display renovation in 50 years, presenting a more comprehensive system of ancient Chinese bronzes from home and abroad to the audience.

The current exhibition features over 500 selected artifacts, reflecting the evolution and development of ancient Chinese bronzes from the late Xia Dynasty in the 18th century BC to the mid-Qing Dynasty in the 19th century AD, spanning 3,600 years. The exhibition hall is organized around the development history of Chinese bronze craftsmanship, divided into seven sections: germination, nurturing, prosperity, transformation, renewal, integration, and revival, with exhibits fully demonstrating the characteristics of bronze craftsmanship in different periods, together showcasing the splendid glory of Chinese bronze art.

There is also a section on bronze-making techniques, vividly displaying how ancient laborers, with astonishing intelligence and skillful hands, created the brilliant and magnificent Chinese bronze culture. Compared to the People’s Square venue, the bronze exhibition hall at the East Pavilion has been adjusted and upgraded in terms of section structure, content, unit descriptions, category explanations, and exhibits.
