The Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art is located on the north bank of the Huangpu River in Huangpu District, facing the China Art Museum across the river. The museum primarily exhibits a variety of contemporary art pieces and frequently hosts different thematic exhibitions. Here, you can appreciate various abstract art works and new concept art exhibits, fully stimulating your aesthetic sense and imagination.
Originally built as the Nanshi Power Plant in 1897, the museum features a 165-meter reinforced concrete chimney that stands tall and visible from afar. Inside, the museum is spacious and bright, with rough steel structure beams visible and clear traces of the factory conversion, giving it a strong sense of history.
The exhibition halls are mainly located on the first to fifth floors of the museum. There is a café on the fifth floor, and the Cloud Restaurant on the seventh floor offers full meals. The museum’s exhibits are not fixed and often change with different thematic exhibitions, such as art design exhibitions, era portrait exhibitions, Swiss landscape design, Cartier Time Art exhibitions, and more. So, when you visit after some time, the exhibits you see may be completely different from the previous time.
