Located in Pudong Lujiazui, to the west of the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai Nature Wild Insect Museum is a place where you can observe a variety of live insects and insect specimens, including rare insects with unique appearances that you may have never seen before. You can also see various amphibians and reptiles such as lizards, frogs, and turtles, which are sure to broaden your children’s horizons.
The museum is divided into two floors. If you visit with children and take your time, it will take about two hours to see everything. Please note that the indoor environment can be a bit stuffy during the summer.
Starting on the upper floor, there is a feeding area where you can feed koi fish, and you can observe animals such as the Yangtze alligator, snakes, and adorable miniature woolly monkeys. You will then see various live insects and arthropods, including spiders, scorpions, stick insects, rhinoceros beetles, and various reptiles.
On the ground floor, you can see reptiles, various lizards, turtles, and frogs, as well as a very rich collection of butterfly specimens. The museum also keeps small animals such as chinchillas, rabbits, goats, owls, and bats, which you can feed and touch.
Every weekend at 11:00 and 14:30, and during golden weeks and holidays at 11:00, 13:30, and 15:00, you can see interesting knowledge about small animals, including chinchillas and lizards, in the small animal display area, where children can also participate in interactive activities.
