The Shanghai Stadium was the main venue for the Eighth National Games of China in 1997. Also known as the 80,000-seat stadium as it can accommodate 80,000 spectators. It is a stadium of world-class level. The stadium covers an area of 190,000 square meters. The entire building is circular with a diameter of 300 meters and a total elevation of more than 70 meters. It is a large-scale comprehensive sports facility integrating sports competitions, cultural and sports performances, fitness and entertainment, accommodation, business offices, and shopping exhibitions. The 80,000-seat stadium adopts many advanced architectural achievements in the world today. The Shanghai Stadium has a novel shape and reflects a strong sense of the times. It is dotted in the broad square with lush green grass and blooming flowers, just like a giant magnolia flower set off by green leaves.
