The Shanghai Gymnasium is commonly known as the 10,000-person gymnasium. It was completed in 1975, covering an area of 106,000 square meters and a construction area of 47,800 square meters. It is an early large gymnasium in Shanghai. Nowadays, many concerts and other cultural activities are held here every year. Due to its functional transformation, the gymnasium has also been named Shanghai Grand Stage. The main body of the Shanghai Gymnasium is a circular competition hall with a diameter of 114 meters and a height of 33 meters. The roof adopts a steel pipe grid structure, which is welded by more than 9,000 seamless steel pipes and 938 steel balls. The area of the competition hall is 31,000 square meters, and the hall has 18,000 seats. The equipment is novel, including movable grandstands, folding basketball racks, program-controlled dimming equipment, air conditioning equipment, photoelectric control timing and scoring boards, etc.
